Maintaining the health barrier of the skin is a key aspect of skincare. Every skin is different, and embracing yours is the very first step of the skincare journey.

For any skin type moisturizing is crucial, there is a misconception among many people that oily skin types don’t need a moisturizer. I would like to address that it’s a huge mistake that can cause your skin to lose its healthy barrier. No matter what your skin type is, moisturizing your skin can make a lot of difference in the way your skin looks and feels.

Even though moisturizer is for every skin type the main factor is the ingredients and the texture of the product. As I have always mentioned, one right product is all you need to get that amazing result you’re looking for.

If you have oily skin the moisturizer should be in a gel-based texture while for the skin that’s normal or a combination, you can go for a lotion type. Dry skin needs heavy moisturizer hence, a moisturizer that is in a creamy texture will be best for you. On the other hand, sensitive skin types can go for a balm-textured moisturizer.

How to know your skin type? There is an easy way to know your skin type.

First, wash your face with a cleanser then wait for 30–50 minutes. Now based on how your skin feels, you can know your skin type easily at home.

With age and hormonal changes, our skin loses its properties to restore all the protective oils and hydrating agents that are present in our skin so moisturizing accordingly is very essential.

Along with moisturizer, adding some of the active ingredients helps to keep our skin top-notch. We can always go for a moisturizer that already has such ingredients but we need to understand when it’s the time to add an extra step to our skincare routine.

Just adding one right moisturizer can help our skin to function at its best. Skincare routine, whenever someone says that the first thing that pops into people’s heads is 8–9 steps of layering different products one after another, no you don’t need that. A simple routine and products that are effective for your skin are all you need.

Some of the active ingredients to look for in a moisturizer that can be beneficial for the hydration of your skin:

Hyaluronic acid

This is one of the best agents to help your skin plump and hydrate. It helps with hydration as well as strengthen it along with treating your fine lines. One of the factors that increase the elasticity of your skin, prevents moisture loss while repairing the skin barrier.

Glycerin

Glycerin is one of the most common products and is super inexpensive but loaded with so many benefits for our skin. Many people have complained about its consistency because of its high viscosity but the other properties make it all worth it. Due to its thick consistency, it remains in the skin for a longer period which helps our skin to retain its moisture. Minimizing water loss for the skin locks the moisture which tends to be great for our skin.

Fatty acids

Fatty acids are elements that are naturally present in our body and level down with age. Fatty acids like omega-3s and omega-6s are the elements responsible for the building blocks of healthy cell membranes. It produces the skin’s natural oil barrier, promotes healthy cells, and hydrates the skin making it plumper and younger-looking. Along with hydration it also helps to reduce breakouts.

Ceramides

These are naturally a part of the skin that is essential for all skin types. It helps to hold up all the factors that are necessary for keeping the skin barrier healthy. It acts like an agent that keeps all the other essential agents intact for keeping up the moisture by protecting it from other harmful elements.

Petroleum jelly

There are so many benefits of petroleum jelly, it’s a gel-based product that is high in hydrocarbons that contain antioxidants. Petroleum jelly is a most used product that has high advantages for skin hydration. It has semi-solid consistency which is super moisturizing for dry and flaky skin. For oily and acne-prone skin this product might be not suitable as it’s thick and greasy. For dry skin, it’s one of the inexpensive products which is rich in benefits for the skin.

Moisturizing right can never go wrong, it makes your skin plump and glowy. Choose the right product and see how wonders it can do to your skin. Go get the glowy and nourished skin you always wished for.
